October Club, Berlin, 1972: A young legend from Assam, Jayanta Hazarika, steps gingerly on stage with his elder brother, Bhupen Hazarika, and overwhelms a German audience with his mellifluous voice at an international conference of political songs.
Jayanta Hazarika is a name that proabably has left the biggest impression on Assamese music during a very short span of time.
A musician and singer, Jayanta Hazarika, hailed from the most influential musician family of Assam. He was the younger brother of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

He was born in 1943 and established himself as a promising singer, composer at a very early age.
His very first recording venture with the two immortal numbers, Agali batahe kopale kalare pat... and Krishnachura... penned by Dr Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi and Mayashri Borkataky respectively produced by the HMV in 1962 brought him popularity and fame.
He began play-back singing in 1963 in the Assamese feature film Moniram Dewan where his brother, Dr Bhupen Hazarika was the music director.
There was no looking back for him after this. He gifted the Assamese society with numerous melodious songs. He also worked as an assistant director in various Assamese films directed Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
His sudden demise in 15th October, 1977 is one of to biggest shock to the public of Assam. None can ever fill his premature loss in Assamese music world.
